Luke 20:41-44

As we move through the final chapters of the gospel of Luke we see him fearlessly speaking truth to power over and over again with the end result being his crucifixion. Of course, we know who the real power was all along. In the short passage of Luke 20:41-44 we again see such "truth speaking" by Jesus. This time he challenged the leaders on their understanding of Messiah. They considered Messiah to be a strong but human political figure who would restore a true, powerful, and independent kingdom back to Israel, free of foreign domination. But Jesus pointed them to a Psalm used more often in the New Testament than any other, Psalm 110:1: "Yahweh says to my Adonai: "Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool." Huh? Why is that verse so important to the message and mission of Jesus?
